Yael Bardoogo

Senior Researcher

I am a research associate in Ben Maoz’s lab. I completed my Ph.D. studies at the Biotechnology and Food Engineering Faculty at the Technion – Israel, under the supervision Prof. Esther Meyron-Holtz. My research was focused on mechanisms of iron transport through the Blood Testis Barrier (BTB). For the last seven years I have been working in several different research fields, including molecular and cellular biology, biomaterials, drug delivery, particle characterization, cancer research, and hormonal communication; and gained broad methodologies, knowledge of research and management experience. I worked in the Immunophenotyping Unit for Diagnosis of Leukemia and Lymphoma Malignancies, (Rambam Academic Hospital, Israel). I worked as a lab manager in the Laboratory for Biomaterials headed by Prof. Boaz Mizrahi (Technion - IIT, Israel). I was a research associate, at the Laboratory for Molecular Neuro-Oncology headed by Prof. Tal Shahar (the Department of Neuro-surgery, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (TASMC), Israel) where we engineered molecular therapies and screened for therapeutic markers in human brain tumors, based on new discovered exosomal markers. Lastly, I held the position of a senior research associate, at the Center for Fertility Preservation headed by Prof. Dror Meirow, (the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) unit, Sheba Medical Center, Israel). We worked to reduce chemotherapy toxicity on the ovary by pharmacological techniques, transplantation of ovarian tissues, and deciphering the molecular mechanisms that affect depletion of the ovarian reserve caused by chemotherapy.

I participated in an Organ On a Chip conference held in Tel Aviv University, when I was interested in this field to implement into my previous research lab. Ben presented there his research, and I was very impressed by his work. When Ben was looking for a research associate, I came to talk to him and found a very professional researcher with an impressive personality, top of the edge techniques and equipment, and a great atmosphere in the lab. I knew that this is the person I want to work with, and the lab I want to be part of.

My main project in the lab focuses on developing a novel platform to easily connect several organ-chips together to better study organ-to-organ interaction and human physiology in health and disease in vitro.

In my free time I like to bake and cook for my family and friends.
